Beginning in 1964 and continuing for about two years,
Lonnie was picked up by Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Among other
notable tracks, his stint with Roland was documented by
Don't You Cry, Beautiful Edith and Alfie on Verve,
and Here Comes The Whistleman on Atlantic.
Originally recorded in January of 1965 with the title
Rip, Rig, and Panic, and re-released in 1990 under the
same name as a compilation by PolyGram, Roland Kirk
incorporated the adept piano work of Lonnie on eight
cuts (album cuts 8 through 15) including Blue Rol,
Alfie, Why Don't They Know, Silverlization, Fallout,
Beautiful Edith, Stompin' Grounds, and It's A Grand
Night For Swinging. The other artists on these tracks
include (of course) Roland Kirk on Tenor Sax,
Flute, Stritch, and Manzello; Ronald Boykins
on Bass; and Grady Tate on Drums.
